Malacanang asked the operator of South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to defer the 250-percent toll rate hike by one week. The new toll rate fee will take effect on July 7. Because of the incoming new toll fee hike price, protests arises from different trasport sectors.
According to them, increase in toll fee would also mean:
- increase in bus fare
- increase in the goods transported through the highway
According to this link, several of our lawmakers and officials in the southern area are pushing for the investigation and disagree with the abrupt increase. They would like to see the justification and transparency behind the overwhelming increase on the toll fee.
Some also request to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) that would hold the increase in toll rates.
Hopefully, the increase can give time for public consultation and support the best of public’s interest. At the end if this will not be resolve, all of this negative effects will be an added burden to our economy not only to the motorists/commuters.
